A Plasma Accelerator is a type of ship weapon in Elite: Dangerous.
Weapon Characteristics[]
Plasma accelerators are very powerful weapons, usually mounted on stations or larger ships. A plasma accelerator fires a ball of high-energy plasma towards it's target, dealing massive amounts of damage on impact. A plasma accelerator will usually be able to destroy most smaller ships in only one or two shots. Due to the destructive nature of the weapon, it requires large amounts of energy to fire and a long cooldown period afterwards to dissipate any generated heat.
Although the weapon does fire an energy based projectile, it does require a supply of ammunition to function.

The only ship currently available in the game that can equip a plasma accelerator is the Anaconda, due to it being the only ship with a class 4 hardpoint.
